Crossplay and cross-progression, explained
Two different questions hide behind the word crossplay. Can I play with friends on other devices? And if I switch devices, do I keep what I have earned?
Two ideas, often mixed up
Crossplay means players on different kinds of kit share the same matches or worlds. Some games switch it on by default, some let you turn it off, and many shooters keep console players in their own pool unless they choose to mix with PC.
Cross-progression means your unlocks, items and progress sit on an account rather than a device, so you can move from a console to a PC and carry on. It usually depends on linking the same publisher account everywhere, and purchases do not always travel even when progress does.
Link accounts before you play
If you might ever switch devices, create the publisher account first and link your console and PC accounts to it before the first session. Merging two separate histories later is often impossible.
