One of the widest spreads of kit for any big game on the list. The only real gaps are phones, older laptops and the last-generation consoles, which are stuck on an older version.

03 · the verdictA second life, fully earned
Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person role-playing game set in Night City, a violent, neon-soaked American city of the 2070s. You play V, a mercenary with a failing experimental implant in their head and the ghost of a rock star for company, and the city is yours to explore on foot, on a bike or in dozens of cars.
The launch in 2020 was rough, particularly on the last generation of consoles, and the game's reputation took years to recover. What you buy today is a different product: a rebuilt skill system, smarter police and driving, better stability and the Phantom Liberty spy-thriller expansion, which many players rate as the best part of the whole thing.
The writing and the side stories are the highlight. Night City is full of small, strange human stories, and the main plot is sharp enough to carry forty hours without the filler that stuffs most open worlds.
Kit reach is now among the widest on the list for a big game. It runs on PC, is Verified on Steam Deck, has native versions for Apple silicon Macs and Nintendo Switch 2, and is on both current consoles. The last-generation console versions are no longer where to play it, and older graphics cards will need modest settings.

you want a story-rich open world with style to spare, and you enjoy building a character around a play style.
Skip it if…
graphic violence and adult themes are not for you, or your PC's graphics are older than the minimum class.

What the shop sells
No in-game shop, currency or microtransactions. The only paid extra is the Phantom Liberty expansion; the free extras pack and the modding tool cost nothing.

Which edition? The Ultimate Edition bundles the base game with Phantom Liberty and is the complete package. On PS5 the cheaper route is the £39.99 base game, or the PS Plus Extra catalogue, with the expansion added later. Avoid PS4 and Xbox One copies unless you already own that console: they never received the 2.0 update or the expansion.
06 · starting in 2026Finished, fixed and still worth it
The last major update, 2.3, arrived in July 2025 and was followed by a small patch in September 2025. CD Projekt has moved on to a sequel, so the game you buy now is the settled, complete version.
The Ultimate Edition launched alongside Nintendo Switch 2, expansion included. Source.
Update 2.3 added new vehicles and side jobs plus an AutoDrive option; the native Mac version released the same day. Source.
Patch 2.31 refined AutoDrive and photo mode across every current platform. Source.
CD Projekt announced the game is coming to Battle.net later this year. Source.
No further patches or expansions are planned. A Battle.net release is due later in 2026, with no date yet.

08 · first stepsBefore your first session
- Pick a play style (stealth, hacking, blades or guns) and put attribute points behind it rather than spreading them thin.
- Side jobs from the fixers who call you are often better written than the main missions; do some between story beats.
- Phantom Liberty unlocks partway through the story; you can reach it early, but it is tougher than the areas around it.
- On PC, turn on the game's upscaling option before lowering texture quality.
